Partner IGAXES organized a 2 hours session to different agents and organizations, where were invited to discussed about the project and to talk with them about their work, their progress and their worries. In these sessions they made a presentation together in the first part, and then they divide the group in two smaller groups. Each group has different profiles: families, families at risk of exclusion, teachers and other school professionals, and experts (phycologist, educators, and pedagogues). In these small groups they talk/discuss/have feedback about their different challenges through dynamic activities. Finally was made a conclusion and then the event was closed.

Multiplier event - Parents mentoring parents in Hungary

The multiplier event of Bagazs took place in Bag, Pest county, Hungary on 26.02.2020 with about 40 participants. Most of the invited guests - important actors in the local community, such as the mayor, the school headmaster, kindergarten headmaster, the priest – had joined the event. Among the other participants there were teachers from the local school, and parents both from the village and from the segregated residential area.
The session schedule consisted of two sections: a frontal part and an interactive one.
The frontal section contained three presentations given by experts in the following topics:
  1. The first talk was given by Noémi Orvos Tóth, a well-known clinical psychologist and author, who spoke about learned helplessness, explaining that varieties can thrive in an encouraging environment. Her thoughts and shared personal experiences inspired the audience to work together towards our common goal.
  2. The second presentation was held by Emőke Both, President of Bagázs Association, giving an overall picture of the principles and the goals of the association. Our goal was to set a common ground and basic understanding of how our organization works, what are the core values that we espouse and embody. We found it important to share these values before the interested parents join our mentoring program.
  3. The last presentation by Bea Szász, special educational therapist, was about the project Parent’R’Us, focusing on the importance of the support given by local parents who are involved in their children’s academic achievements to disadvantaged local parents. Our objective was to give an overall picture on the existing children’s programs of Bagazs, and to explain how the new parent mentoring program would join and complete this programs.
In the interactive part of the event two groups were formed by the participants trying to focus on two different topics:
  1. The first group tried to find the reasons why it is beneficial for conscious parents to help
  2. Second group discussed the motivational factors of those parents who live in the segregated residential area.
In the end both groups demonstrated the findings of the brainstorming and consultation.
The first group arrived to the conclusion that getting to know each other helps understanding and cooperation. School teachers can facilitate this process to a great extent.
According to the second group, trust is the main factor for those parents living in the segregated area.

In conclusion, we have managed to find a direction and some common ground based on which we can build a program. Following this we would like to organize other meetings in the future along this motivational line. The positive feedbacks we received seem to support this idea.
